Plus Pool, New York, US
If you fancy swimming in a river but don't fancy getting carried away with the current, you'll be excited to hear about plans for New York's Plus Pool. Plans for the Plus Pool - a pool shaped like a plus sign - were first put forward in 2010 by a team of designers which included mechanical engineers, ecological consultants and environmental experts based at Columbia University.
The walls of the pool will be made from a fine, mesh-like material which will filter out bacteria and odours and it's hoped that the pool could become a reality as early as next year, allowing New Yorkers to swim in the Hudson river in the shadow of the city's iconic skyline.
