Cathedral of St John the Divine, New York, US
This Manhattan landmark, reckoned to be the world's largest Gothic cathedral, is one of the most majestic buildings in New York City.
Construction started in 1892 but stalled in 1941 during the second world war, leaving 'St John the Unfinished' without a tower and a north transcept, as it remains to this day. Various attempts for completion since then have failed and for now the tools are silent, making St John's an unfinished but gloriously peaceful place to visit in the heart of the Big Apple.
