Glow sticks at the ready! You could just head to your nearest British club for a dance fix, but the world has whole clubbing cities out there. From hardcore and house to trance and electro, the Amsterdam Dance Event's more than 700 DJs and live acts performing in 40 venues attract some 80,000 people a year: this is one of the best places on the planet to spot the big acts of the future. Dates in 2010 are from October 21 to 23.
Or you could hole up in a fortress for four days of musical gluttony. Petrovaradin fortress in the city of Novi Sad, Serbia, plays host to the annual Exit Festival. Around 90,000 people turned up to last year's extravaganza to hear sounds from around the world, including big names such as Lilly Allen. This year (July 8 to 11) is expected to be even bigger, with 600 performances planned over 20 stages, connected by tunnels and ramparts. But for real music lovers...
