Ephesus in Turkey is not short of historical ruins either, having once belonged to the ancient Greek and Roman empires respectively. The library of Celsus is a particularly popular tourist attraction, built in honour of a Roman Senator Celsus and completed in AD 145, in order to hold scripts and later serve as Celsus' tomb.
