12. Weymouth
Olympic fever is already underway in Weymouth, which will host the sailing events in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Times are good on this slice of the Dorset coast - Weymouth was voted fourth best up- and-coming travel destination by TripAdvisor last year, and there's a whirl of regeneration in the air as the town gears up for London 2012. The lovely beach is the main draw, but the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy offers a fantastic selection of watersports. Mosey on down to the 17th-century Old Harbour, which is a picturesque spot for a drink, boasting some excellent pubs.
