Tropical fish and colourful coral are high on the priority list for many a tourist here – but we at Beach Tomato HQ love that it's also a great beach for catching a wave or two. There's also an awesome music festival called Hikkafest held on the beach every July and August – cool DJs plus great surf. Hikkaduwa beach lies 3.5 hours south-west of the capital, Columbo. Simply hop on a public bus – they're frequent, very cheap, but busy – so be prepared to stand!
