Forget the Caribbean coast for Christmas, we've fallen for the Pacific coast charms of Costa Rica. Attracting surfers with some of the wickedest waves in the world, Playa Tamarindo is what it's all about – a wide stretch of golden sand, with a laid-back jet-set crowd, Tamarindo is activities galore during the day and buzzing as the sun sets.
Our advice – head down to the waterfront at night to marvel at the multitude of shooting stars.
