Korea may be a long way to go for these delicate embroidered hangings, with their distinctive fronds, but back home they will hold their own as a focal point in any room. The bright pinks, greens, blues and golds are stunning and the fronds are silky to the touch. This is a look that somehow combines exoticism with an air of tradition.

To purchase the embroideries, try the Kukjae Embroidery shop (+82 2 732 0830) or the Janganpyeong Antiques and Collectables Market in Seoul. Another must-have from the region is an ornate wooden chest.

What is this year's souvenir is next year's tat and the following year's antique.
I have seen it all before.
This is merely opinion, fashion and trends forcing the market into making specific purchases.
I am still saving up for my holiday in European Russia (Moscow, St Petersburg and the canals between).  I will still bring back matrushka dolls, and send postcards to friends and family of the Winter Palace and Red Square.
I am not influenced by self styled experts.
