Manzanillo is pretty much the end of the road on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. However, if you carry on along the 5.5km footpath south from here to Monkey Point you’ll have a real adventure, passing through jungle where you’ll almost certainly see toucans, brightly coloured poison dart frogs (don’t touch!), monkeys and maybe even a sloth or two. You also pass some lovely coves en route but don’t swim out too far – sharks have been seen here. 

Getting there: Drive south from Puerto Limón for approx 1.5 hours to Manzanillo. 
Good for: Jungle adventure, wildlife spotting, quick dips in the ocean.
