Cagliari is one of the oldest cities in Italy. The historical part of the city is called the ‘Castello’, and was built by the Pisans in the 11th century. Cagliari was once home to the Carthaginians before being conquered by Rome. Due to its prime location as a strategic mid-way point between Africa, Europe and the rest of the Mediterranean, the city was fought over for centuries.
