Fisherman's Walk, Bournemouth, Dorset
The 14th - 17th of September is the UK's Beachwatch Big Weekend. What's that?
It's a massive beach cleaning operation run by the Marina Conservation Society each year to raise awareness of marine litter. Find out how to become a volunteer at mcs.uk.org. To inspire your beach cleaning efforts this weekend, here is a selection of Europe's prettiest, and cleanest, Blue Flag beaches.
Fisherman's Walk is a replenished beach that has been awarded a Blue Flag for its high standards of water quality and cleanliness. Visually the beach is very impressive with clear waters and a pretty golden shore formed of shingle and sand. Families can also relax knowing the beach's LV=Kidzone programme will quickly locate any lost children. The blue waters are gentle and popular with bathers, and, as well as swimming, the south-coast beach offers a number of waters ports including sailing, fishing, pedalo hire and water skiing. There is a cycle route along the promenade as well as a beautiful three kilometre under cliff walk that heads east towards Hengistbury Head.
