The divine Winged Victory stands in the Louvre

Described as "the summit of hundreds of years of civilisation", "one of art history's greatest masterpieces" and a representation of that "spark of the divine immanent in every form of life", the Winged Victory of Samothrace is one of the most-celebrated sculptures in the world. A third-century BC marble statue of the Greek goddess Nike, it is now dramatically displayed at the head of a staircase in the Louvre, Paris.
