An exhibit at the International UFO Museum and Research Centre

In 1947 the Roswell Army Air Field recovered debris (and allegedly bodies) from a crashed UFO. What was initially thought to be an alien aircraft was then dismissed as a surveillance balloon but UFO enthusiasts have never bought that story. In recent years films and TV shows have cemented Roswell's reputation as America's premier alien city.

Businesses in the town have capitalised on their UFO connection with many eateries themed in ET style. In July, the UFO festival kicks off for fans to share bits of info. While for many visitors simply having lunch in one of the kitsch diners will be enough of a draw, there is also Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge a few miles outside town for those who want to add some more terrestrial sightings to their trip.
