Does the above picture look like a Yoruba wrap? Not exactly, but that's what Miss Universe's Nigerian contestant thought would do the trick for the native costume segment. Traditionally, Nigerian costume is so recognisably African, other African countries without a national dress of their own have resorted to wearing it at official functions. The Yoruba version is a loose, long sleeved shirt called a buba, worn by men and women. Accompanied by trousers and a cap for the men, women wear a skirt called iro with elaborate headscarves.
