Both men and women wear the djellaba - a long sleeved kaftan with a hood. Menfolk occasionally accessorise this with Tommy Cooper's favourite hat - a fez (more properly called a bernousse) - while women sometimes wear a takchita, a double-layered dress, instead. All of these can be prohibitively expensive as they are hand-stitched rather than made in China. Soft leather slippers are worn - presumably to tiptoe around the credit card bill when it arrives.
