'Blunt locals happily tell you that you look fat or old'

Who? Doug Chalmers, broadcast journalist originally from Leeds
Big differences: "There are so many people in such a small city, and that can be frustrating - avoid Causeway Bay on a weekend at all costs. The weather here takes time to adjust to as well, especially in the summer, when the humidity can be 100%. There are also a few cultural differences to contend with... things like people burping out loud in restaurants and blunt locals happily telling you that you look fat or old."
Hong Kong loves: "I live 15 minutes' drive away from a beautiful beach and spectacular walks but also have all the shops, restaurants and pubs I could ever need on my doorstep. This city never sleeps and is incredibly efficient and safe when compared with the UK."
Favourite places: "Playing football at Happy Valley surrounded by skyscrapers is quite surreal. It's also a stunning walk through the Sai Kung country park, with a beautiful beach - Tai Long Wan - at the end."
