Sarah White with family in Brazil

Who? Sarah White - who moved from London with her husband and now works in finance control for Nokia-Siemens in Brazil
Big differences: "The big difference is the diversity. It is such an enormous country, with a variety of natural environments and states of economic development, populated by people from vastly different backgrounds and ways of life. Social norms are looser, so you have to be more flexible and adjust your expectations to the conditions."
Sao Paulo loves: "I love the quality and variety of the fresh produce and the thriving street markets that still exist in city neighbourhoods. I love the Brazilian churrasco, or barbeque, where the chunks of meat are cooked piece by piece by piece and shared for hours with gossip and beer. And it's great that you can turn up to any beach in just your bikini and you will always find someone ready to provide you with a beach chair, umbrella, snacks and caipirinhas until sundown."
Favourite places: "Ilha Bela is my favourite weekend getaway. It's a 200km drive from Sao Paulo city to Sao Sebastiao and then a 15 minute ferry ride to the big island, where we stay at Praia do Curral (Coral Beach). The island is famous for sailing and adventure sports but after a hectic week I'm happy just to sit on the beach and admire the view of the neighbouring islands and islets."
