One of the venerable Aida chain of cafes in Vienna

Who? Mike Welch, working for the British Council, originally from Carmarthen in west Wales
Big differences: "Everywhere in Vienna is so fantastically accessible and the public transport system is a joy to use. The city is not so huge that it overwhelms but it still has plenty of things to keep me and - more importantly in my case - my two children interested and entertained."
Vienna loves: "One of the things that I'm really enjoying is easy access to some fantastic countryside. And the whole family agrees that the cakes were worth coming to Vienna for."
Favourite places: "The area down by the Danube is fast becoming a family favourite. The downtown area around Stephansplatz on the weekend also has something for everyone - the kids like the street performers and the general buzz, my wife and I like the outdoor cafes."
