The Hot Rock Trans-Africa and Trans-Asia truck is an old red Scania that has a home-made back added to it.
There are large gear lockers on the outside, and depending on how many people are on the truck (there can be up to about 20 comfortably and after that it starts to feel tight) they are shared. Communal lockers also contain all the basics for cooking - gigantic pots and pans, a table, washing up bowls, and food for the coming days. There is even a wood locker for starting fires.
Inside, there are smaller personal lockers for valuables. A library contains books that Hot Rockers young and old have left - there is quite a good selection, actually. There is also a stereo system and "toy box" which contains things such as footballs, frisbees, and fancy dress outfit for those long drive days where a bit too much beer is consumed.
There is no toilet in the truck, however to answer the call of nature all one needs to do is wave the arm out the front window to alert the driver that someone is about to burst. The truck will then screech to a halt, and it's each to their own as people scramble outside, looking for something to hide behind. Being the only girl in the back posed some challenges at times in this regard. All in all, it's not a bad ride, though quite dusty!
