War, what is it good for? Certainly not tourism. Only the most intrepid – or foolish – traveller would dodge bullets for the sake of a story to tell in backpackers’ hostels.
Still, where there’s a will, there’s a way and while the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office issues regularly updated warnings of dire situations in more than 50 countries, it cannot stop its citizens from risking their lives – whether as aid workers, business execs or tourists – in travelling to them. The FCO asks travellers to register their presence in a dangerous country using its Locate service, but warns that Her Majesty’s Government may well be unable to get them out of a jam.
There are currently more than 35 large-scale conflicts raging worldwide, yet some of the most acute no-go zones are also beauty spots or contain must-see historical monuments. Clearly, the most beautiful sites often bear witness to the least beautiful aspects of humanity.
Advice changes all the time – the Obama effect and the global economic crisis, for example, could alter things significantly. Check the FCO’s “don’t go” page before you make a move.
In the meantime, take our armchair tour of some of the riskiest places on the planet

1sty - somaliland is not recognised neither in Somalia nor outside -except by a certain clan in the northwest who wish to establish a separate state.
2ndly - the region in the north has been in war and more fiercely in the last 3 years where clans have been fighting for or disputing the concept of a separate state 'somaliland' where cities in the north have been held at gun point to accept 'somaliland'
3rdly - there is no capital in the north -the only capital is Mogadishu.
and finally - Yes its a bit iffy to go to Somalia if you dont know what you're doing but still Somalia has international flights from Dubai and Kenya for years - even though they didnt have a central government.. if you wish to go- ensure you have Somali friends who can give you the do's and donts.. if you have no Somali contacts - hmmm try Tanzania
