Obviously I'm not talking about the MSN articles, I'm talking about postings like the one from alienetika.
I've travelled and lived (for years not months) in many beautiful places/countries only to see them commercialised and ruined. Generally where the North Americans go in 'clumps' the prices go threw the roof after they pay 3-4 times the normal price for things because 'its cheaper than the states, so it must be a good price'. Its obvious that a big percentage of N.Americans don't understand any culture other than their own (even after living in another country for years, like some of my friends I must add). In many cases they spoil things for future investments in those places and make it hard for some locals (and expats)who have to pay inflated prices in certain areas (although some do benefit). Not to mention the hotel chains that arrive in once secluded spots.
So guys if you are lucky enough to find a nice, tranquil, secluded spot, please don't advertise it to the 'world'.
