The St Regis Resort, Tibet, lays claim not only to being the first luxury resort to open in the strife-torn mountain kingdom but also to containing the world's highest luxury spa, at 12,000ft above sea level. And it is within the so-called Iridium Spa, which opened at the beginning of this month, that you will find this extraordinary pool. In a way that completely fails to suggest monkish modesty and restraint, the pool is entirely lined with gold tiles. It is, however, adjoined by a meditation garden just in case guests begin to feel too, um, gilt-y.
