Higher earners are shunning major UK airports, a survey by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has revealed.
The annual income of leisure and business passengers at nearly all the airports in the survey dipped between 2007 and 2008.
The annual income of leisure passengers at Stansted fell by more than £4,000, while Heathrow business passenger income went down £4,700.
Only among leisure passengers at Luton and Manchester airports were income rises recorded between 2007 and 2008.
The survey looked at passengers leaving nine UK airports - Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter and Manchester.
London City was the only airport where business passengers - at 56% - were in the majority. This compared with only 34% at Heathrow where there were 1.2 million fewer business passengers in 2008 than in 2007.
