The one-offs that make Edinburgh brilliant
Império da Tijuca
Império da Tijuca samba school won the Access Group parade in 2013, which means this year it's making its return to the top-flight Special Group for the first time since 1996. Founded in 1940, it's one of Rio's oldest samba schools and the first to use 'império' (empire) in its name. The school's colours are green and white and its flag features a golden crown representing nobility and tradition. It will be celebrating African rhythms this year with its entry, 'Batuk' (drumming).
