These free ideas are great. The nearest on to us is 130 miles away. A 260 mile round trip. Could msn tell me where to get the free petrol from?

How are these free? None are nearby and all require a fortune in fuel! Lovely pictures but pretty useless information. Thanks. Luckily we live in a beautiful part of the country (forest of dean - not mentiond here!) and can find our own entertainment for free!

Great ideas .... if you're staying at home, however, or looking to save money over the half term break, take a look at gettingstuckin.co.uk - a new site containing loads of ideas for indoor fun with the kids .. all activities, tips and best buys tried and tested by a mum and her 3 kids. Never hear "i'm bored" again ! Total livesaver for all the wet days we've had of late :)

'uck me what a miserable bunch, I don't suppose 10 free things to do near Steve Rod or Simon house would appeal to the masses either : ). You might have to eat some lunch as well, how is that free. Sort it out msn.

I live in durham, the cathedral sucks.

Its fun for the first five minutes until you touch your phone and someone tells you its like £5 to take photos.

..it`s a fine selection ! It`s good to see such varied opportunity in England ! Sharks off Cornwall was surprising;good old Blackpool (congratulations too !);the natural beauty of Northumberland, the West Country and the Lake District;the science lesson would be interesting..also the Science Museum and Natural History Museum;then there was the RAF,Man Utd and Durham Cathedral.

..It will probably take me longer than 7 days to see them all (more like 7 years) ~

Not as badly off as some who have posted. But the train fare to any of them is well over £20. Not free at all!

...Went to World's Largest Practical Science Lesson event in Nottingham___TOTALLY FANTASTICALLY AWESOME!!! It cost £12.60 return by train with a family and friends railcard for 1 adult and 2 children. We packed a lunch for the day and only bought drinks for a grand total of £14.60. We made it into the Guiness Book of Records AND had a blast...priceless!

Some of these are great ideas but it seems to be mainly about nature, are there any sporty or entertainment things to do in half term that are recommended?

I think you will find that the Natural History Museum has a reconstructed Diplodocus skeleton NOT a Brontosaurus. Well Researched again MSN.

Not very local or free when considering travel etc, we will have to take the children for a walk in the local woods.
