The bad news is that the weather is likely to be this bone-shiveringly miserable for the next two weeks. The good news? We've put together a selection of places that are 20C and above, all of which are under a four-hour flight away. Get packing...

Who can afford a holiday these days?  It is difficult enough to try to find the cash to put a litre of fuel in your car to get to work to pay for the journey!

Seriously, MSN, I think this is rubbing our noses in it.  Please, give most of us some practical advice - like bucking the disasterous economic trends of this country.

Turkey has many superb attractions as a holiday destination for the discerning traveller including sandy, sun-drenched beaches next to clear seas under cloudless blue skies (as well as a wealth of historical sites dating back to the Aegean bronze age) and everything in between.

Like most other resorts in the Med. there are cheap resorts catering for the package tourist and good luck to those people who want to get away from our economically stressed country to the sun in a country that offers incredible value for money. Unlike those counries tied to the Euro Turkey represents great bang-4-bucks and, if you go just a few kilometres away from the tourist resorts you will discover much much more to make your holiday a memorable one.

Bodrum is a case in point. Visit Bar Street for a shopping experience to remember but then look around the old town and harbour where you will  find a well preserved castle dating back to the Crusades. Jump on a dolmus (cheap local bus) or hire a car and explore the Bodrum Peninsula and you will see the diversity that Turkey has to offer - it's a brilliant holiday destination.

Well pointed out (Franko399) I've live in Malta for over 6 years and I still love the place, don't believe every body who say, it's all rock no beaches, because Malta has some great very clean beaches, good priced bars and resturants and beautiful sun shine with temperature in the 30+ and the people are quite frendly too.

so for a good priced holiday, cheap flights go to Malta.... see you there.. remember you get what you pay for, don't expect 5* treatment for 3* prices.

Off to Malta on Wednesday for a 'warm break'. This is not my first visit and won't be my last. Prices in Malta are comparable with the UK, unlike Spain and France which are total rip-off with their prices!!!

@ Charlie s

Have to agree with u about Malta! I was there last year and stayed around St. Juliens and for me it had everything a nice lil beach a pumping nightlife, if u wanted that, and more grown up places like round the harbour were all the restaurants were at! Plus u've got all the other places for sightseeing too! Would go back there at the drop of a hat! I was on a night time flight and the view of Sicily when descending into Malta is stunning!

You'd have done better to produce this 'article' the week before Easter and named it 'Last Minute Hot Short Hauls'... oh no wait, that was when we were experiencing the hottest March on record wasn't it. I don't know

As a similar idea try the west coast of Cyprus, around Polis and Latchi. This is an unspoilt area of natural beauty, with friendly locals who speak English, but preserve a real culture that is hard to find on holiday destinations these days.  Island with a palm tree

If you love real fresh air, clean beaches, good weather, unspolit nature and first class cuisine - with something for all ages - try Cyprus. They also drive on the left   Hot

John Lee, if it was that bad, you should have named and shamed the hotel and resort. Then again, you only get what you pay for, was it cheap?

I live near Alanya on the Turkish Riviera and it is currently 28C on my villa terrace with a cool breeze blowing off the sea. Might pop down the road in a minute for a cold beer at my local bar.

If you want to visit a place that if steeped in history, were the people still rely on one another, where you and your kids are safe, warm and sunny and surrounded by the clear blue med and THE people there speak different languages...where? Malta....nothing better.

Dubia is the place =] Its got the lot. A the way they do things is top draw. Bali has a rep for being paradise but its not. Landing at Kuta airport your greeted with the expected wreath, then reality hits in as you walk out, gorping for a taxi. Its blackpool for Australia ! I must admit the resort itself was nice though. And if you can avoid the dreaded "Bali belly" and get decent location then there would be little need to venture out =] Weather was amazing.

I spent my honeymoon, 3 years ago in Alhao on the Algarve. A delightful town east of Faro and had a wonderful time where the locals are friendly and accomodating. Would recomend it anytine.
