Hugging the sea front in Whitby with impressive views of the Abbey, Quayside takes the old-school approach to fish and chips by frying them in beef dripping. Despite having to close to repair damage caused by flooding, it bagged the first runner-up slot for this year's Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant Award. The building is a much a talking point as the food is - it is one of the oldest in Whitby and Bram Stoker carried out some of the research for his novel Dracula there. Ketchup, anyone?
