The 2012 World Architecture News (WAN) Urban Regeneration Awards are a good go-to guide as to which cities are getting spruced up, and what you can expect next time you pop over to Shanghai or New York. The jurors were looking for more than fancy facades this year – the selection for this year's shortlist was geared towards how the entrants influence lives. Grand visions include a welter of waterfront transformations in Tulsa, Madrid, China, Auckland, Canada and Atlantic City, and Leicester Square in London rolls out a fresh red-carpet revamp after a few stinky decades.
