It's the location of these French gardens which sets them apart - perched on a cliff hanging above a river in rural Dordogne. With their globule-like bushes and rounded boxwood trees (there are over 150,000 of the things), the gardens are a refreshing departure from the symmetry typically associated with French gardens. We're talking about you, Versailles.

Err have you never heard of Kew Gardens? World Heritage site, home to the world’s largest collection of living plants? What about the Eden Project, home to the world’s largest greenhouse? No?  Oh dear, how sad.

My favourite is the French gardens.  I have visited the countryside of France and seen the outstanding gardens in various areas.  They still are so romantic to walk through on a warm summers night. Serene and beautiful. They have also preserved their history in the form of buildings and bridges..I have been to Hampton Court and although the Palace is gorgeous the gardens looked like nothing on a very cold, windy and rainy day.  I challenged my daughter to go through the maze, even though it was peeeeing down.  It was smaller than what I expected it to be.
