Most beautiful mask
"It was a sight surpassing all precedent and one we never dreamed of seeing." So said Howard Carter following discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb and the most spectacular burial hoard ever uncovered. And of all its incredible treasures, which fill room upon room at the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, his golden burial mask is indisputably the most magnificent. Weighing in at over 10kg of solid gold, it is inlaid with lapis lazuli, quartz, obsidian, turquoise and other semi-precious stones. All of which has given King Tut's mask the reputation as one of the most beautiful pieces of goldworking ever crafted.
