Worth a whopping US$14m (£9m), the Heart of the Kingdom ruby is generally acknowledged to be the most magnificent jewel of its kind in the world. It is also set in the world's most expensive necklace. The 40.63-carat, heart-shaped ruby, of an intense blood-red hue, sits in the centre of 155 carats worth of diamonds. The necklace is on display at Garrard's jewellery store in Beverly Hills, California.
