Most beautiful lake
Aldous Huxley once wrote: "Lake Como, it seems to me, touches on the limit of permissibly picturesque, but Atitlán is Como with additional embellishments of several immense volcanoes. It really is too much of a good thing." And while we can think of many other candidates - Canada's majestic Peyto Lake, Bolivia's multicoloured volcanic lakes and China's Five Flower Lake among them - it was also Atitlán, the deepest lake in Central America, which won through for us. The lake fills a vast volcanic caldera, formed an estimated 84,000 years ago.
