1811 Château d’Yquem
The 1811 Château d'Yquem set a new Guinness World Record last week for being the most expensive bottle of white wine ever sold. Christian Vanneque parted with £75,000 for the bottle, which is a very rare vintage, from a chateau that sits at the top of a hill near Sauterne, Bordeaux. Normally white wine, unlike red wine, doesn't age well, but this particular wine is the exception, which makes it all the more unusual. Alas, Mr Vanneque will not be uncorking it anytime soon - he plans to put it on display at his new restaurant SIP in Bali, Indonesia, which opens in September this year.
