Ms Rotterdam in the Norwegian fjords.
Grand Bazaar, Istanbul
Where: Istanbul, Turkey
Entering the world's largest covered market is an immediate assault on the senses. Built around 1464, the bazaar is packed with thousands of stores selling everything from sparkling jewellery to dodgy leather jackets. Even if you're not intending to splash out, it's worth a visit just to experience the madness. The main drag is a labyrinth of arched roofs, intricate tiled mosaics and haggling shoppers all clamouring for the best price. Some shop owners might even invite you in for an apple tea and a chat, after which you'll most likely leave with an unwanted rug on your shoulder.
