The London picture with the snow is so beautiful, and seems like it could be an iconic picture in the future.

These pictures are just brilliant.

You can take pictures like those Glenys. Not to take anything away from the photographers, as yes they are all amazing and inspiring shots. But if you want to take photos like them, the best thing to do is get out with your camera and take shots and keep taking shots at every opportunity you get. It's about spotting the opportunity when it's there. A bit of imagination, an appreciation and you don't have to be a professional or have an expensive camera. Just think about the angle, the framing. And don't hesitate. Take the shot as it might be the best one, but stick around for a while after. It might be even better under different lighting conditions. Especially with a Sunrise or Sunset. Clouds move in, shadows are cast, colour changes with lighting, etc. Think about the elements in the scene, what works, what contrasts, what is unusual. Sometimes it's the subtle, simple things. Reflections, strange angle, or just the moment... Like the couple on the bridge embracing in the snow. You take it for granted sometimes and can miss shots like that. But what a picture that is...

Yes wonderful shots, ..but made even more dramatic with a little judicious help from Photoshop don't forget...but these people know when to stop! 

Can't say I would have agreed with the judges as to the new winning shot but having said that a lot depends on what these images look like in the flesh as large prints; do they stand up to scrutiny or are they pixellated blurs like so much digital is when enlarged any bigger than A3 or even 4. Maybe the winning image is outstanding in that respect, will have to wait and see. For me the best are Kayoke Okeyode, Scott Wilson and Colin Mill. The other images are certainly lovely but in terms of originality few are outstanding.
