The new list revealing the world's safest airlines - compiled by the Airport Transport Rating Agency (ATRA) - may not entirely convert those of a twitchy disposition, but it should go some way towards allaying some fears. The highly rated agency analysed 44 carriers in the world, and judged them on 15 criteria, which included how old aircraft were and the number of cabin crew. The airlines are listed in alphabetical order - not according to safety.

Air France KLM
Air France and KLM merged in 2009, but they still operate as separate airlines. Air France has a huge global destination map, and you can fly from 21 UK airports with the airline. Royal Dutch Airlines, or KLM, also services a lot of Europe, as well as places such as Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco, from a whopping 26 airports in Britain. Check flight deals with KLM and Air France.

What a load of rubbish. They head it "safest" then discuss the service. No mention of Qantas who claim never to have lost an aircraft or killed a passenger: they did once but were flying for another airline so conveniently they don't count it as "theirs". KLM is in but were to blame for the worst civil aviation accident in history (Tenerife). Air South West in the U.S. have been prosecuted by the FAA for inadequate maintenance and they are on the list. Seems they don't consider accidents or prosecutions for this list.

Why is this called the safest airlines? Who wrote this?!

So what your saying is the safest airlines are the ones where you get free drinks or something?

You can receive the best customer service in the world but if there's an accident it won't stop the plane from smashing into the sea.

There is no such thing as the worlds safest airline. If a terrible disaster takes place, it is irrelevant where the airline comes from. The cause of accidents are always due to human error, mechanical failure or adverse weather conditions. So ,if the plane belongs to Emirates, Singapore, B.A., Lufthansa,Qantas, etc, all of which, can and have been involved in some sort of accident,or incident. No airline is safe from the unthinkable going wrong.

Always use Air France/KLM myself but that is very much to do with convenience of their flights and good service.

Seems to be a strange list of top 10 safest airlines even if you take just the last 10 years.
